2019 Swim Dates

Important Dates for Dolphin Activities this Season

Pasta Night – July 11th

Championship Meet – All Teams hosted by OOI Dolphins – July 13th

Awards Night – July 14th

Hello Dolphin Families,

And just like that, the last week of swim team season is upon us! Summer is going way too fast 😖! It has been so enjoyable to watch all the swimmers drop time, gain friends, and grow in sportsmanship and camaraderie. A community swim team builds relationships and memories like nothing else, and we are so lucky to have this great program. In light of that, let’s soak in all this last week has for us!
1. Monday- Friday practice times are as usual. Please do your best to have your swimmer at practice every day this week! The Championship Meet will be close, and every point will count, so it is important that everyone works hard and is ready to swim their best on Saturday! The coaches must have meet entries done by Wednesday, so please let them know ASAP if your swimmer will not be at the meet. (We hope they will!)

2. Wednesday, July 10th, 7-8:30 pm– Float-in-the-Pool Night!
  • This is the only night swim team members are allowed to bring a raft or pool float of their choice to the pool. We will also serve root beer floats at 8pm, FREE to all Dolphin swimmers. This is a night you don’t want to miss!

3. Thursday 7/11 @ 6:30pm- Pasta Night!

  • Come carb load and eat a great pasta dinner with fellow Dolphins and their families.  This is an annual Dolphin tradition, and we will need all families to contribute in some way. Please sign-up here to bring something: 👉 https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/datob
  • Be sure to bring some $ too! We will be doing our annual Pie-in-the-Face Activity, where Dolphin swimmers  get to throw a pie at their favorite coach as a “thank you” for all those challenging sets! Whipped cream pies will be for sale, $1/plate. This is the most “fun” fundraiser we do!

4. Friday 7/12–  Spirit Friday (tattoos & nail polish) and a GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP!5. Saturday 7/13- Championship Meet at our pool @ 8 a.m.

  • Warm-up for all 8 and under swimmers will be at 6:30 am.
  • This meet runs a little differently. ALL 8 and under events will be done first. 9 & up swimmers will warm-up after the 8 & unders are done with their events (TIme TBA). Older swimmers and their families should still come early to cheer on the little ones!
  • Since this is a home meet and a BIG meet, we will need LOTS OF HELP. Please sign-up here to help with something. We need at least one shift done per family, please.👉 https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/wxpsw
  • We need 4 moms and 4 dads to represent our team in the Championship Meet Parent Relay! Sign-up sheets are be posted on the clubhouse windows.
6. Sunday 7/14– Awards Night @ TBA, at the OO1 Clubhouse
  • This is always a special night where each swimmer is celebrated and acknowledged for all their hard work, and where we honor our career Dolphins that are aging out this year (bring your tissues!). The best part of the night is watching the Dolphin Video on the big screen!
  • Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to sit on, and cookies, brownies, or other bite-sized dessert to share.
Thanks everyone! We hope to see you all around the pool this week!

Go Dolphins! 🐬

———————————————-

Hello Dolphin Families,

We had a great first meet against the Seals on Saturday! It was a super close meet, our Dolphin swimmers fought hard, and best of all, we saw a lot of great sportsmanship. The season is moving right along, and we have another great week ahead:
  • Tuesday- Toppers Pizza Fundraiser Night (Flyer to follow)
  • Wednesday- Regular Practice and Tie Dye Shirt Day💥  (4-6 p.m.). We will provide the dye, buckets, gloves, rubber bands, etc., you bring a 100% white cotton shirt/tank top, and your tie-dye creativity. Parents must be present to assist younger children, and are welcome to dye a garment also.
  •  Thursday: Regular Practice
  • Friday: Regular Practice/ Friday Spirit-Salon Day
  • Saturday: OO1 Dolphins vs. Old OO2 Sharks @ 001 Pool (Home Meet)- Since this is home meet, we will need A LOT of help to make the meet happen and run smoothly. PLEASE click on the link and sign up for at least one shift per family:

A few last things:
  • Since this a home meet, we will need each family to donate one case of water by Friday at 5 pm to the Dolphin canteen.
  • This will be the last week to purchase spirit wear. We will have more sweatshirts and t-shirts in sizes that we were out of before. Sizes are limited, so get to the tables early if you’d like to purchase.
  • It’s hard to believe, but our Championship Meet is only 2 1/2 short weeks away! As usual, there will be a *Parent Relay* which is always great fun for the kids to watch. We will need 4 moms and 4 dads for each of our parent relay teams. David Plasterer has offered up a dad relay practice/coaching time on weeknights at the pool, during adult swim time (7:30-8 p.m.) Interested parents can reply to this email, or talk to David.

That’s all for now! Have a great week.

Go Dolphins! 🐬

——————————————————————————-

Hello Dolphins Families,

Here is the information for this week:

1. Morning practice and afternoon practice will be this week as usual.
2. Tuesday 6/18 is our Chipotle Fundraiser 🌯 (4-8 p.m. at the Town Center Drive location). Please spread the word, and show the attached flyer when you order, so that it counts toward the fundraiser. Chipotle Flyer

3. Friday 6/21 after practice, is our first Dolphin spirit salon🐬! Be sure your kids head to the upper deck after practice for some nail painting and dolphin tattoos, in preparation for our first meet!

4. Saturday (6/22) is our first meet 🏊- OO1 Dolphins vs. Summit Seals (at the Summit Pool). Here is what you need to know:
  • Dolphin families will be able to set up chairs at the Summit pool on Friday night (exact time will be announced later this week).
  • If your child is NOT swimming at this Saturday’s meet, please let a coach know asap, or reply to this email.

Meet Day Info-

  • The meet will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and should be done around 12. (Younger swimmers will be done earlier). Warm-up and arrival time will be announced later this week.
  • Swimmers should a healthy dinner the night before the meet, and a light breakfast the morning of the meet. It is also very important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water on Friday, and bring extra water to drink at the meet on Saturday, as well as light, healthy, easily digestible snacks.
  • Bring sunscreen, extra towels, and toys, books, or games (to entertain your child) in between races. It will be hot, so cooling towels and small misting fans are also a good idea.
  • Please pay attention to the meet schedule on Saturday morning, and make sure your swimmer is in the heat-seating area, in plenty of time for their race.
  • Show your spirit! Be sure to wear your Dolphin gear on meet day!
A few last important things:
  • Fourth of July
    • We are desperately in need of someone to head the annual Fourth of July fundraiser at the clubhouse. If no one steps up, it will be our first year of not having the event. If you are able and slightly interested, please let us know asap. We can answer any questions about what it entails- it may not be as daunting as you think! 🙂
    • The Summit Seals have invited the Dolphins and Waves to walk with them in the Fourth of July parade (the Sharks will have their own entry). It should be a great time- look for the sign up sheet at the pool this week!
  • Baby Pool– There have been several complaints and expressed concerns about the baby pool. Please read the following message from the OO1 Pool staff:

Dear Dolphin Families,

We are asking for your help. The wading pool is designed to be a safe place for our younger swimmers to be able to  swim  and play. We have some children who are not following the rules of that pool, thus making it not as safe for the little ones. Parents who have little kids are complaining, and rightly so. Please be aware of the following rules – and make sure your kids know the rules as well.

1. The wading pool is only for kids who are 6 years old or younger. Nobody over 6 can be in that pool (the exception: parents, babysitters, etc. who are at least 14 years old who are supervising a child in the wading pool).
2. There is no lifeguard for the wading pool. Even though the pool is shallow, accidents/tragedies can happen.  When kids (6 and under) are in the wading pool, they must be supervised by a parent or other responsible person (that person must be at least 14 years old). There is a short wall that separates the main pool from the wading pool; the person supervising the child must be in the wading pool area on the south side  of that short wall. Again, this is for the safety of the kids.

The coaches have reminded the Dolphins of these rules, and they will continue to do so, but it would be very helpful if you could review these with your kids as well. Beginning on Tuesday, time outs will be given to kids who are found to be breaking either of these rules.

1. If any child over 6 is in the wading pool (unless he/she is 14+ with a young child), a time out will be given. If any 6-or-under child is in the wading pool without an adult (14+) in the wading pool area, the child will receive a time out.
2. We don’t want to have to give time outs, but we want to ensure that everyone is following the rules that have kept our wonderful facility a safe and fun place for so many people for so many years.
Thanks for your help,
The OOI Staff

That’s all for now! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

See you around the pool, and GO DOLPHINS! 🐬
